Ghana’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Said Sinare, has strongly rejected claims by NPP National Vice Chairman Alhaji Osman Masawudu, popularly known as Chairman Buga, that he prevented him from attacking then-NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia during the 2024 general election campaign.
Mr Sinare described the claim as a fabricated account of events aimed at creating political relevance for Chairman Buga as he seeks another term in office.
His response follows a viral video in which Chairman Buga reportedly claimed that he intervened to stop Mr Sinare from accusing Dr Bawumia of being anti-Muslim and alleging that he consumed pork, drank local alcohol and engaged in conduct contrary to Islamic teachings.
But Mr Sinare dismissed the account, insisting that Chairman Buga had no authority over his campaign activities or political commentary.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Chairman Buga did not stop me from anything during the 2024 campaign or at any other time,” he stated.
He said he neither sought Chairman Buga’s permission to campaign nor encountered any restrictions imposed by him.
Mr Sinare also pointed to his activities during the 2024 election campaign, saying he travelled across the country as Chairman of the NDC Zongo Caucus to mobilise support for then-candidate John Dramani Mahama and NDC parliamentary candidates.
According to him, his campaign involved engagements with community elders and young people in Zongo communities across the country.
He accused Chairman Buga of attempting to rewrite the events of the 2024 campaign in order to present himself as a key political figure who protected Dr Bawumia from attacks.
Mr Sinare described the claim as a “ludicrous revisionist narrative” designed to manufacture political relevance ahead of the NPP’s internal elections.
He further argued that attempts to improve Dr Bawumia’s political standing through such narratives would not succeed, citing what he described as concerns over the former vice president’s economic record, campaign promises, Hajj fares and broader political conduct.
“Dr Bawumia’s political currency has depreciated beyond redemption,” Mr Sinare said.
He subsequently challenged Chairman Buga to focus on his own record and account to NPP delegates instead of invoking his name as part of his re-election campaign.
“I therefore advise Chairman Buga to stop using my name as a lifebuoy for his drowning re-election campaign and instead concentrate on explaining his record to the NPP delegates who will ultimately decide his political fate,” he said.
Mr Sinare warned that he would continue to respond if Chairman Buga persisted in associating him with claims about the 2024 campaign.
“Politics is not a funeral. If Chairman Buga cannot withstand the heat, he should get out of the kitchen,” he added.
“But if he dares to continue dragging my name into his political calculations, I will respond with facts, history and the full force of my voice.”
