Police arrest three suspects over chaos at NPP Constituency election in Obuasi

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested three individuals for allegedly disrupting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Executive Election at Bidieso in Obuasi.

The suspects, identified as Haruna Iddrisu, alias Dole; Osei Boateng, alias Nana Osei; and Charles Opoku, alias Blackman, are accused of storming the polling station on July 12, 2026, with offensive weapons.

According to the Police, the suspects allegedly caused chaos at the election venue by scattering ballot boxes and issuing threats to election officials and voters, thereby interrupting the voting process.

The Command said a reinforcement team was dispatched to the scene following reports of the disturbance, resulting in the arrest of the three suspects. Police officers also retrieved an axe and a cutlass during the operation.

The suspects were later arraigned before the Bekwai Circuit Court and charged with conspiracy to commit crime, specifically rioting with weapons, and rioting with weapons.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges and were each granted bail of GH¢50,000 with two justified sureties.

The court has adjourned the case to August 10, 2026, as police continue investigations and work to arrest other persons suspected to have been involved in the incident.
