The Adenta Circuit Court 1 has remanded a 40-year-old Senior Nursing Officer, Salomey Awity Baffoe, into custody for two weeks following her arrest over an alleged connection to the controversial social media account, Ghana Jollof.
Her detention forms part of investigations into individuals suspected of links to the TikTok account, which has gained attention for its criticism of government officials.
Ms Baffoe was reportedly arrested from her residence in Hansua in the Techiman Municipality late on September 13.
According to reports, three men who identified themselves as National Security operatives arrived at her residence at about 11:30 p.m. and took her away.
Her family subsequently struggled to establish her whereabouts, with both the local police command and regional National Security officials reportedly saying they had no record of the operation at the time.
The circumstances surrounding her arrest have since attracted public attention, particularly because she is a mother of three.
Her lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has questioned the basis for keeping his client in custody for two weeks, especially after state authorities told the court that the person believed to be behind the Ghana Jollof account is currently in the United Kingdom.
“Because you want to arrest Ghana Jollof, you have remanded her for two weeks. Meanwhile, you told the court that Ghana Jollof is in the UK,” the lawyer argued.
The court nevertheless ordered Ms Baffoe to remain in custody for two weeks as investigations continue.
Authorities are yet to publicly establish the specific evidence linking the Senior Nursing Officer to the operation of the Ghana Jollof account.
