President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Emelia Afi Agbenyo, Deputy Director for Operations at the Ghana TVET Service, and Dr Joseph Kweku Asamoah, a former Director of Finance at the Electoral Commission (EC), as Deputy Chairpersons of the Commission.
Dr Asamoah, who is also a law lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), previously served in several senior positions at the EC, including Director of Finance, Director of the Training Centre and Head of Audit.
The appointments come amid changes in the Commission’s senior leadership, following the resignation of Dr Bossman Asare, who was responsible for Corporate Affairs, effective July 31, 2026, and the retirement of Samuel Tettey, the former Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age.
The two appointments are expected to fill the vacancies created by the departures and reinforce the Commission’s leadership as it continues to discharge its constitutional mandate of overseeing elections and safeguarding Ghana’s electoral processes.
