Obuasi SHTS: Gender Minister engages school authorities over alleged abuse

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has arrived in Obuasi to engage authorities of the Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) over allegations of sexual misconduct involving the suspended headmaster and some female students.

The visit follows sustained public concern over reports of alleged sexual misconduct at the school, which led to the headmaster’s suspension and renewed calls for measures to protect students from abuse.

Dr Lartey earlier paid a courtesy call on officials of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly before proceeding to the school to engage its management and students.

She is also expected to visit the alleged victims and their families as part of efforts to understand the circumstances surrounding the allegations and assess the support they may require.

The Minister is expected to hold a community engagement later in the afternoon to discuss the matter with relevant stakeholders and address concerns surrounding student safety and welfare.

She will subsequently brief the media on the outcome of her engagements and outline the way forward, including measures to safeguard students and prevent similar incidents.

The allegations against the suspended headmaster have generated considerable public debate, with calls for accountability and stronger safeguards for students in educational institutions.
