The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), in collaboration with the Northern Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, has arrested six suspected illegal miners at Wakawaka in the Bole District of the Savannah Region following a resurgence of illegal mining activities.

The joint operation, conducted from October 26 to 28, 2026, also led to the destruction of seven air compressors and 58 makeshift structures used for illegal mining, as authorities intensified efforts to prevent miners from reclaiming previously cleared sites.

The task force, acting on intelligence that illegal miners had regrouped and resumed operations, discovered suspects actively mining upon arrival at the site.

The six suspects were arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.
Personnel also seized a generator plant, an air compressor, mining materials, water hoses, a saw machine, hammers, rubber mats, a solar panel, and other equipment associated with the illegal activities.
