NPP Youth Organiser hints at possible ‘Yɛgye Yɛ Sika’ demonstration in Kumasi

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Youth Organiser, Abanga Fuseni Yakubu, has suggested the possibility of staging another ‘Yɛgye Yɛ Sika’ demonstration in Kumasi to demand accountability from the government over the evacuation of Ghanaian nationals from South Africa.

In a Facebook post, Abanga indicated that organising another protest in the Ashanti Regional capital would be appropriate, particularly following comments by Shamima Muslim, which he interpreted as suggesting that President John Dramani Mahama would not listen to the concerns of Ghanaian youth.

“Holding another demonstration in Kumasi wouldn’t be a bad idea, especially since Shamima Muslim implied that President John Dramani Mahama won’t listen to the cries of the youth in this country,” he wrote.

The proposed protest is expected to centre on demands for transparency and accountability regarding the circumstances surrounding the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa.

The NPP has also called on Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to step aside to pave the way for an independent investigation into the evacuation exercise.

Abanga’s comments signal a possible expansion of the ‘Yɛgye Yɛ Sika’ protest to Kumasi as the opposition party intensifies pressure on the government over the matter.

However, no official details, including the date, venue or arrangements for the proposed demonstration, have been announced.
