Mahama meets Boeing officials over plans to establish new national airline

President John Dramani Mahama has met with officials of Boeing Group as Ghana advances plans to establish a new national airline.

The American aerospace company is supporting the government’s efforts to re-establish a national carrier, with preliminary studies affirming the viability of the project.

A roadmap for setting up the airline has been agreed, outlining key steps towards its establishment and operation.

The process will involve the search for a strategic airline partner and a technical partner, as well as the acquisition of an Air Operators Certificate (AOC).

It will also cover fleet selection and decisions on financing arrangements for the proposed airline.

The Boeing team assured President Mahama of its continued support throughout the process, including the establishment and operation of the new carrier.

The airline is expected to increase the utilisation of Ghana’s improved airport facilities and support President Mahama’s vision of making Accra the premier aviation hub in West Africa.

Beyond its contribution to the aviation sector, the project is expected to create thousands of jobs for pilots, cabin crew, aeronautical engineers and aviation management specialists.

The establishment of the new national airline forms part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s aviation industry, improve connectivity and position the country as a major player in regional air transport.
