The Ministry of Health has dismissed claims circulating on social media alleging that Ghana has recorded 2,300 Ebola infections and 930 related deaths, describing the reports as false and misleading.
In a statement, the Ministry said the publication, which has been attributed to South African broadcaster SABC, does not represent the true public health situation in Ghana.
It stressed that the country has not recorded any confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), urging the public to ignore the figures being circulated online.
“The Ministry wishes to state unequivocally that Ghana has not recorded any case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). The figures being circulated are false, misleading, and should be disregarded,” the statement said.
The Ministry called on Ghanaians to remain calm and rely on information from official and credible sources, cautioning that the circulation of false reports could cause unnecessary anxiety and public panic.
It also disclosed that Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh recently inspected the country’s points of entry, laboratories and designated treatment centres as part of routine preparedness measures aimed at strengthening Ghana’s capacity to detect and respond to potential public health threats.
According to the Ministry, the visit formed part of ongoing emergency preparedness activities and should not be interpreted as confirmation of an Ebola outbreak in the country.
The Ministry further appealed to the public to refrain from sharing unverified information on social media and instead follow updates issued by the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service on all public health matters.
