Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with an alleged armed robbery attack at Asabi in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the incident took place at about 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, the police said officers from the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team were on routine patrol when they received information that a man had been robbed of his mobile phone and left unconscious near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.
The patrol team immediately responded to the report and proceeded to the scene.
Police said the suspect attempted to flee after spotting the officers and took refuge in an uncompleted building. However, he was chased and apprehended by the patrol team.
The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Ahmed Mustapha.
A search conducted after his arrest led to the recovery of the victim’s mobile phone and a machete, both of which have been retained by police as exhibits for further investigations.
The victim sustained multiple machete wounds to the forehead, neck and left hand during the attack. He was rushed to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital, where he was admitted for medical treatment.
Police later visited the victim at the hospital at about 5:30 a.m. the same day. By then, he had regained consciousness and was reported to be in stable condition while continuing to receive treatment under medical observation.
Ahmed Mustapha remains in police custody and is assisting investigators as inquiries into the incident continue.
