Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has filed an application at the Court of Appeal seeking a stay of execution to halt the implementation of the court’s decision acquitting former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu.
The motion, filed on Thursday, July 30, 2026, is intended to suspend the effect of the Court of Appeal’s judgment while the state challenges the acquittal before the Supreme Court.
The application was signed by Principal State Attorney Hilda W. Craig on behalf of the Attorney-General.
In the motion, the Attorney-General is asking the Court of Appeal to stay the execution of its own judgment pending the final determination of the state’s appeal at the Supreme Court.
The move forms part of the government’s legal efforts to overturn the acquittal of the former MASLOC boss, with the Attorney-General maintaining that the matter should be reviewed by the country’s highest court.
The Court of Appeal is yet to announce a date for hearing the application.
The outcome of the stay application is expected to determine whether the Court of Appeal’s judgment will remain in effect while the Supreme Court considers the state’s appeal.
