President John Dramani Mahama has made changes to his ministerial appointments, nominating two Members of Parliament for new ministerial positions and transferring two existing ministers to different portfolios.
In a statement issued on Friday, August 7, 2026, the President, in line with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, forwarded the names of the nominees to Parliament through the Speaker for consideration and approval.
As part of the changes, the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, has been nominated to serve as the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
Dr Zanetor is expected to assume the role previously occupied by the late Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who passed away in the Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash in August 2025.
The President has also nominated the Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, for appointment as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, pending approval by Parliament.
Additionally, President Mahama has reassigned the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, to the Ministry of Defence.
The current Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has meanwhile been moved to lead the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
The new appointments and changes will come into effect after Parliament completes the vetting and approval process for the nominated ministers.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament, who serves as the President’s Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications.
