Abdul-Aziz Abdu-Rahaman has emerged as the new Upper West Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the party’s regional executive elections.
He secured 173 votes to defeat his only challenger, Kantong Alaska, who polled 86 votes.
The elections were held at the Wa Technical Institute, where delegates also elected executives to oversee the party’s activities and reorganisation in the region ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The other successful candidates are:
- 1st Vice Chairman: Majeed Liman – 198 votes
- 2nd Vice Chairman: Philip Braimah – 166 votes
- Secretary: Dr Tanko Daniel Dauda – 186 votes
- Treasurer: Alhassan Suleman – 160 votes
- Organizer: Hamid Saana – 138 votes
- Youth Organizer: Dodoo Sadat – 158 votes
- Assistant Secretary: Yussif Alhassan – 200 votes
- Nasara Organizer: Alhaji Muniru – 179 votes
- Communications Officer: Nana Sadat – 185 votes
- Women’s Organizer: Minata Moomen – 139 votes
The newly elected regional executives are expected to spearhead the NPP’s organisational restructuring, grassroots mobilisation and other party activities across the Upper West Region.
Their mandate comes as the party intensifies efforts to rebuild its structures and strengthen its electoral base in preparation for the 2028 elections.
The exercise was largely peaceful, although proceedings were briefly interrupted at the Wa Technical Institute after some delegates from the Nandom Constituency disrupted the voting process.
Voting later continued, allowing delegates to complete the exercise and elect the new regional leadership.
