The Accra High Court has reportedly issued a warrant for the arrest of Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah as the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) intensifies an ongoing investigation involving the legislator.
According to 3News, the warrant was granted on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, after EOCO, through its lawyers, applied to the court.
The anti-corruption agency reportedly told the court that it had exhausted reasonable efforts to secure the MP’s voluntary appearance to assist with the investigation.
EOCO is also said to have raised concerns that documents relevant to the investigation could be concealed, altered or destroyed, prompting it to seek authority to search for and seize relevant documents. The court reportedly granted that application as well.
The development follows an earlier attempt by EOCO officers to arrest Baffour Awuah at the premises of the Accra High Court on September 23.
The attempted arrest, which was captured in videos circulated on social media, triggered public discussion about the circumstances surrounding the action.
In a statement issued on the same day, EOCO said it had invited the MP twice in February 2026 to assist with its investigation, but that he did not honour the invitations.
The office said the subsequent steps to secure his attendance, including the attempted arrest, were taken in accordance with its statutory mandate.
The investigation is reportedly linked to Baffour Awuah’s previous legal representation of SIC Life Insurance Limited in a dispute involving Equity Micro-Finance, before he became a Member of Parliament.
The matter has also attracted allegations from Akwatia MP Bernard Bediako Baidoo, who discussed the case in an interview on Accra FM on Monday, September 28.
Baidoo alleged that EOCO’s investigations had uncovered questions surrounding the settlement of a judgment involving SIC Life and Equity Micro-Finance.
According to him, SIC Life had pursued a claim over a loan of about GH¢6 million and obtained a court judgment that paved the way for the sale of property belonging to the microfinance company.
He alleged that the property, valued at about GH¢25 million, had attracted a buyer when another company, Eco Swiss, emerged with a claim over ownership of the land.
Baidoo further alleged that Baffour Awuah subsequently negotiated a settlement involving the parties, despite claims that there was no board decision authorising him to renegotiate the judgment on behalf of SIC Life.
He also alleged that documents in EOCO’s possession showed payments made to Baffour Awuah by SIC Life, Eco Swiss and Equity Micro-Finance.
Among the allegations was that Eco Swiss paid GH¢2.2 million to Baffour Awuah after an agreement involving a GH¢5 million settlement, while Equity Micro-Finance allegedly paid him more than GH¢600,000.
Baidoo further claimed that the former Managing Director of SIC Life Insurance, Amma Frimpomaa Dwumah, received GH¢1 million from Baffour Awuah and his law firm.
The allegations have not been established in court, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The reported arrest warrant now gives EOCO further legal authority to secure Baffour Awuah’s attendance and pursue documents it considers relevant to the investigation.
