The Minister of Education has directed the immediate suspension of Zakaria Abdulai, Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, over allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female student.
The directive follows an investigative report by JoyNews and journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni into the alleged misconduct at the school in the Ashanti Region.
In a statement, the Ministry of Education said the Minister had instructed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take immediate steps to suspend Mr Abdulai pending a full investigation into the allegations.
The Minister has also requested the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service to investigate the matter.
The Ministry described the allegations as serious, stressing that such conduct would not be tolerated in any educational institution in the country.
It noted that parents and guardians entrust their children to teachers with the expectation that they will protect and safeguard them, rather than expose them to abuse.
The Ministry and the Ghana Education Service reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that schools remain safe environments where students can learn and develop without fear of abuse or misconduct.
