Javits Frimpong’s mother demands justice as she arrives in New York

The mother of 15-year-old Ghanaian student Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong has called for justice following the fatal shooting of her son in the Bronx, New York, as she prepares to bid him a final farewell.

Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi, who travelled from Ghana to the United States following the tragedy, said her priority was to ensure that those responsible for her son’s death are identified and brought to justice.

Speaking after arriving in New York ahead of her son’s funeral, the grieving mother made a brief but emotional appeal, saying that “I want justice for my son, that is all.”

She also disclosed that Javits had dreams of becoming a medical doctor, describing the killing as the loss of a young life with aspirations and a future ahead of him.

The 15-year-old was fatally shot on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while walking to school in the Claremont neighbourhood of the Bronx, in an incident that has shocked Ghanaian communities in New York and drawn calls for a thorough investigation.

Javits was shot shortly before 9:30 a.m. near Crotona Park as he made his way to DreamYard Preparatory School, where he was a Grade 10 student.

According to information provided by New York police, the teenager sustained a gunshot wound and was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators have disclosed that three people wearing hooded clothing and surgical masks were in the area before Javits arrived. Police say the teenager attempted to flee when the individuals approached him, but they chased him and shot him.

The suspects reportedly returned to collect their shell casings before escaping through a nearby subway station. Police have been tracking their movements as part of efforts to identify and apprehend them.
