New 6,000-tonne LPG terminal commissioned to improve supply

Minister for Energy and Green Transition Dr John Abdulai Jinapor has commissioned a 6,000-metric-tonne Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) storage terminal as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s LPG supply infrastructure.

According to a Facebook post sighted by GhanaWeb Business on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Dr Jinapor said the commissioning coincided with the maiden delivery of LPG by MT Asharami Ghana at the facility.

He said the terminal would increase the country’s LPG storage capacity and improve the reliability of LPG supplies.

“This investment is an important addition to Ghana’s energy infrastructure. It increases our national LPG storage capacity and strengthens our ability to maintain reliable LPG supplies,” Dr John Jinapor said.

He said the investment by Asharami Ghana and the Sahara Group was an important addition to Ghana’s energy infrastructure, particularly as the government works to expand access to LPG across the country.

Dr Jinapor said the government was targeting at least 50% LPG access by 2030, making investments in storage and distribution infrastructure critical to achieving the target.

According to him, expanding LPG access would help promote cleaner cooking, improve energy security and make the country’s LPG supply chain more resilient.

“As Government works towards our target of at least 50% LPG access by 2030, investments such as this are critical to expanding access to cleaner cooking, improving energy security and building resilience across the LPG supply chain,” he said.

Dr John Jinapor also commended Asharami Ghana and the Sahara Group for their investment and confidence in Ghana’s energy sector.

He said the facility would have wider economic benefits by creating opportunities in LPG trading, logistics, transportation, distribution and other related areas.

“This significant investment demonstrates confidence in Ghana and will create opportunities across trading, logistics, transportation, distribution and other related sectors,” he said.

The maiden delivery by MT Asharami Ghana is expected to support the availability of LPG on the domestic market while adding to the country’s storage capacity.
