Obuasi: Seven-month-old baby found dead in gutter

Residents of Obuasi Old Estate in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region have been left distressed following the discovery of the body of a seven-month-old baby in a drain.

The infant was reportedly found in a gutter in the community between midnight and 1:00 a.m., although information about the discovery reached residents later in the morning at about 6:30 a.m.

The circumstances surrounding the baby’s death remain unclear, including how the infant ended up in the drain.

The matter has been reported to the relevant authorities, who have commenced investigations to establish what happened and determine how the baby died.

Assembly Member for the Estate Electoral Area, Kofi Mensah, popularly known as Gabasey, was involved in the retrieval of the infant’s body after being alerted to the incident.

Speaking to Adom News’ Isaac Normanyo, Mr Mensah said arrangements had been made for the baby’s burial while authorities continue their investigations.

The incident has triggered concern within the community, with residents calling for a thorough probe to establish whether the baby was deliberately placed in the drain and identify anyone connected to the incident.

Authorities are also expected to rely on information from residents and other members of the public as they work to piece together the circumstances that led to the infant’s death.

Residents have therefore been encouraged to share any relevant information with investigators that could assist in determining what happened to the seven-month-old baby.
