Parliament is set to resume sitting today, Monday, August 24, 2026, following a directive by Speaker Alban Bagbin for Members of Parliament to return to the Chamber to consider urgent business.
The special sitting comes barely four weeks after the House adjourned on July 31, 2026, with MPs expected to remain in session until Friday, August 28.
Speaker Bagbin invoked Order 58(4) of Parliament’s Standing Orders to recall the House during the adjournment period.
The provision gives the Speaker the authority to reconvene Parliament when circumstances arise that require the House to attend to pressing matters before its next scheduled sitting.
During the five-day sitting, lawmakers are expected to deliberate on issues considered urgent and requiring parliamentary attention.
Among the matters expected to come before the House are the nominations of Mahama Ayariga as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology.
The recall therefore gives Parliament an opportunity to consider the nominations and other urgent business before the House resumes its regular schedule.
The special sitting is expected to run from Monday, August 24, to Friday, August 28, after which Parliament could return to its adjournment unless further arrangements are made.
