National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Salam Mustapha, has officially withdrawn from the race for National Organiser ahead of the elections scheduled for October 3.
The Chairman of the National Election Committee, Frederick Opare-Ansah confirmed the development on Wednesday during the balloting exercise for 47 aspirants contesting various national positions.
Adom News’ Kofi Akowuah Twum, who was at the NPP headquarters at Asylum Down, reported that Mr. Opare-Ansah made the disclosure to the representatives of the National Organiser aspirants when they took their turn during the balloting exercise.
The former Suhum Member of Parliament (MP) revealed he received an official communication of Mustapha’s decision on Wednesday morning.
The withdrawal reduces the number of contestants for the strategic position to 7.
Balloting for the remaining aspirants proceeded as scheduled, with the order of names on the ballot paper now finalised without Mustapha.
Mr. Opare-Ansah indicated that he would speak further on the matter afterwards.
Mustapha, the incumbent National Youth Organiser, had been one of the eight candidates cleared by the National Officers Election Vetting Committee to contest the National Organiser slot.
