The government is set to review Ghana’s Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) following the completion of the 2026 Senior High School placement exercise.
The Ministry of Education says the review is aimed at addressing challenges within the placement process and improving transparency, accountability and fairness for students, parents and schools.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, the Ministry announced plans to establish a Technical Working Committee to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the system after the current placement exercise.
The committee will examine the various components of the placement process, identify weaknesses and make recommendations on how the system can be improved.
The Ministry said the review has become necessary as part of efforts to ensure that the CSSPS remains credible, efficient and responsive to the needs of stakeholders.
“The Ministry recognises the need for continuous improvement and strengthening of the system. Following the conclusion of the current placement exercise, the Ministry will establish a Technical Working Committee to undertake a comprehensive review of the placement process,” the statement said.
The announcement comes amid concerns from parents and students over difficulties encountered during the placement exercise, including challenges relating to school selection, placement outcomes and the processes for resolving outstanding cases.
The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has also called for greater transparency and accountability in the CSSPS, adding to growing demands for reforms to the system.
The Ministry says the findings of the Technical Working Committee will be used to strengthen the placement process and ensure that future exercises are conducted in a more transparent, fair and efficient manner.
The review is expected to provide a broader assessment of the system and help address recurring concerns surrounding the placement of students into Senior High Schools across the country.
