The two-week industrial action by teacher unions has been suspended following a series of negotiations held on Friday, October 9, 2026.
The negotiations began with a meeting between the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment and representatives of the striking unions. After the engagement, the minister expressed optimism that an agreement would be reached to end the strike before the close of the day.
The discussions continued with a closed-door meeting between the Council of State and the teachers’ representatives.
Speaking after the meeting, Chairman of the Council of State, Edward Doe Adjaho, described the engagement with the three striking unions as highly fruitful.
The union leaders later met with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), where they formally announced the suspension of the two-week strike.
However, the unions cautioned that the industrial action would resume immediately if the government failed to fulfil its commitments.
The suspension is expected to pave the way for a return to normal teaching and learning, pending the government’s compliance with the agreed terms.
