Two people have lost their lives following a devastating road accident involving four vehicles at Etukrom, near Bonsu Junction in the Eastern Region.
The collision, which occurred on Monday, August 3, involved a State Transport Company (STC) bus, a fuel tanker, a Mitsubishi pick-up and a Kia Sorento. The impact triggered a fire that completely destroyed the STC bus, the fuel tanker and the Mitsubishi pick-up, while the Kia Sorento sustained extensive damage.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), together with other emergency responders, rushed to the scene to extinguish the flames, rescue victims and restore normalcy.
Emergency officials said six people—comprising four men and two women—were rescued from the wreckage and taken to Hawa Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. Two of the victims, however, later died from their injuries.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.
Initial reports suggested that one of the fuel tankers veered off the road and ended up in a nearby river following the collision.
A member of the GNFS Communications Team, Alex King Nartey, confirmed the incident, stating that firefighters and other emergency personnel were immediately deployed to manage the situation and assist those affected.
Authorities say the fire has since been extinguished and the scene secured, while investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.
The vehicles involved were an STC bus with registration number GS 7050-22, a fuel tanker, a Mitsubishi pick-up with registration number GE 8602-17, and a Kia Sorento bearing registration number GT 8601-14.
The fatal accident has been described as one of the most serious road crashes recorded in the Eastern Region in recent months due to the extent of the destruction and the loss of lives.
Officials are expected to provide additional information after completing investigations and assessing the full impact of the incident.
