25-year-old arrested over alleged attempted Robbery on Hiakose-Newense Road

Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with an alleged attempted armed robbery on the Hiakose-Newense road in the Manso Nkwanta District.

The suspect, identified as Francis Nsiah, was taken into custody after reportedly seeking medical treatment for a gunshot injury he allegedly sustained during the incident on Friday, August 7, 2026.

The Nkawie Divisional Police Command said its patrol team received an emergency call at about 11pm indicating that an armed robbery was taking place along the Hiakose-Newense stretch.

Police officers who rushed to the scene said they heard gunshots while approaching the area.

According to the police, they subsequently spotted one of the suspected robbers running into a nearby bush while carrying a bag. Officers pursued the suspect, but he managed to escape into the bush.

A search of the area later resulted in the recovery of an iPhone 14 and a bag believed to have been taken from some of the victims.

Police subsequently received information that one of the suspected robbers had reported to a medical facility for treatment after allegedly sustaining a gunshot injury.

Officers proceeded to the facility, where they arrested Nsiah.

The suspect was found to have suffered a gunshot wound to the left side of his buttock and remains at the medical facility receiving treatment under police guard.

The Nkawie Divisional Police Command said investigations are underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attempted robbery.

The police are also working to identify and apprehend other individuals suspected to have participated in the incident.
