The Ashanti Regional Police Command has re-arrested six suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate following intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting criminal activities in the region.
The arrests were carried out by the Regional Anti-Armed Robbery Unit in Kumasi as part of efforts to track down individuals suspected of engaging in robbery and other violent crimes.
The suspects have been identified as Philip Nyarko, alias “Kawawa”, 23; Hadi Samed, alias “Toronto”, 20; Issahaku Musah, alias “Isak”, 23; Suraj Mohammed, alias “Baba Nde” and “Trouble”, 27; Hadi Abdul Majeed, alias “Panie”, 23; and Foster Owusu Afriyie, alias “Joe Fraizer”, 45.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Osei Akoto, six other suspects believed to be linked to the group are currently on the run.
They are identified as Andy, Umaru, Dauda, Malik, Abdul Shattar and Abdul Farouk.
Speaking at a press conference at the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters, DCOP Akoto said the police had intensified efforts to track down those still at large.
The operation also resulted in the recovery of six laptops, three tablets, several mobile phones, machetes and knives from the suspects.
The Regional Commander disclosed that some of the suspects had previously been arrested on December 6, 2025, in connection with alleged conspiracy to commit crime, robbery and attempted robbery.
They were subsequently arraigned before the Asokwa Circuit Court 1, where the case remains pending, and were granted bail.
“Philip Nyarko, alias ‘Kawawa’, and Hadi Samed, alias ‘Toronto’, were among those previously arrested, while Abdul Shattar, who was also linked to the case, is currently at large,” he said.
DCOP Akoto said intelligence gathered after the suspects were released on bail suggested that some of them had allegedly returned to criminal activities.
The police have since launched further efforts to locate Abdul Shattar and the other suspects who remain at large.
The six arrested persons are currently in police custody and are being processed for prosecution.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to tackling armed robbery and other violent crimes, assuring residents that efforts will continue to identify, arrest and prosecute persons found to be involved in criminal activities.
