First Vice National Chairman aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has reignited debate over the party’s relationship with one of its founding members, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, claiming the veteran politician is no longer a member of the NPP.
According to Nana B, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe effectively distanced himself from the NPP after President John Dramani Mahama returned to power and has since aligned himself with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking on UTV’s morning show on September 11, 2026, Nana B made the claim while addressing questions about the NPP’s internal unity and the views being expressed publicly by some of the party’s founding figures.
He argued that the NPP is currently more united than it was in 2025 and suggested that comments from individuals who are no longer aligned with the party should not be used to assess its internal cohesion.
Nana B specifically took issue with Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe’s continued identification with the NPP, insisting that the veteran politician should no longer be regarded as a representative of the party.
“He is not a party member. Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe is no longer an NPP member. When John Mahama became President, he came out to say that he was related to Mahama family-wise and that he now associates with him. He said that now that Mahama is President, he is now aligned with the NDC,” he stated.
The NPP executive hopeful further accused Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe of consistently making statements that are critical of the party while arguing that his comments are often amplified by supporters of the NDC.
“When he speaks, he should not be considered an NPP person. It is mostly NDC people who use him. All his comments are anti-NPP. He has never commended the party for anything,” Nana B said.
He also claimed that the NPP had formally communicated its position to the veteran politician, informing him that he was no longer considered a member of the party.
“We have written to him. He knows. It is forfeiture of membership, he is not a party member,” he added.
Nana B’s comments come amid renewed discussions about the NPP’s internal cohesion as the party prepares for its national executive elections and looks ahead to rebuilding after its 2024 electoral defeat.
