Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman Paul Awentami Afoko is reportedly reaching out to members across the party’s various camps as he pushes a reconciliation agenda ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Private legal practitioner and NPP stalwart Charles Owusu Juanah says Mr Afoko has already begun engaging people from opposing factions as part of efforts to bridge divisions within the party.
Speaking on September 28, 2026, Lawyer Juanah, who is the National Chairman of Friends of Bawumia, said the NPP needs to resolve its internal differences and bring together members who have become alienated from the party.
He believes Mr Afoko’s relationships within the NPP put him in a position to engage different groups and facilitate dialogue among members with competing interests.
“He has even begun interacting with opposing camps in order to form a united front ahead of the 2028 elections,” Juanah said.
According to him, the reported engagements demonstrate an approach centred on reconciliation rather than deepening factional divisions.
Juanah said Mr Afoko had also started discussions with some party members as part of the broader effort to rebuild trust and encourage collaboration among the various groups.
“He has even begun talks with some members,” he stated.
The comments come as Mr Afoko campaigns for the NPP National Chairmanship on a platform built around what he calls the “3Rs” — Reunite, Rebuild and Recapture.
Mr Afoko has consistently placed reconciliation at the centre of his campaign, arguing that the NPP must first address its internal divisions and rebuild its structures before seeking to return to government. He has also previously said he is not seeking to lead one faction against another but to build bridges across the party.
Juanah further argued that bringing together members who feel excluded or dissatisfied would be crucial to strengthening the party ahead of the next general election.
“If there’s anyone who can ensure all disgruntled members come together, then it’s none other than Paul Afoko,” he said.
The NPP is scheduled to hold its national executive elections on October 3, 2026, with Mr Afoko contesting the National Chairmanship. His campaign has made unity and the rebuilding of the party’s grassroots structures central themes ahead of the 2028 elections.
