Kumasi Mayor vows to uphold Otumfuo’s trust, pledges honest leadership

The Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Richard Ofori Agyeman, has pledged to serve with integrity and ensure that he does nothing to betray the confidence reposed in him by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

According to him, although he was nominated by the government of President John Dramani Mahama, the Asantehene played a significant role in supporting his appointment as Mayor of Kumasi.

Speaking during an interview on Otec FM’s morning programme, Nyansapo, hosted by Kwaku Owusu Boateng on Monday, July 27, 2026, Ofori Agyeman said he was determined to uphold the trust placed in him by the Asantehene.

“I will not bring disgrace upon Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. I will conduct myself in a manner that protects both his reputation and mine,” he said.

The KMA Chief Executive disclosed that the Asantehene has consistently offered him guidance and support since he assumed office, adding that the King has personally funded some development initiatives within the Kumasi metropolis to accelerate the city’s growth.

He also revealed that Otumfuo has, on several occasions, provided him with financial assistance to meet certain personal obligations, describing himself as one of the most privileged individuals in the Ashanti Kingdom because of the King’s generosity and encouragement.

Ofori Agyeman said the confidence and support he has received from the Asantehene have inspired him to lead the Assembly with transparency, accountability and dedication.

He stressed that he would not engage in corruption or any conduct that could undermine the confidence the Asantehene has placed in him.

“I owe it to Otumfuo and the people of Kumasi to preserve the trust they have reposed in me by serving honestly and responsibly,” he stated.

The Mayor further pledged to work diligently to improve infrastructure and development across Kumasi, saying his greatest responsibility is to deliver results that justify the confidence the Asantehene has shown in him.

“I am committed to transforming Kumasi and ensuring that the trust Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has placed in me is fully justified through my work,” he added.
