Lawyers for former Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, have rejected allegations of wrongdoing against their client in connection with the award of scholarships during the previous administration.
In a press release issued on Thursday, August 13, 2026, the lawyers described recent public commentary by Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, Sabah Zita Benson, as a “false and misleading narrative” aimed at subjecting their client to public ridicule.
According to the lawyers, Dr. Agyemang maintains that he performed his duties as Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat with diligence and denies any wrongdoing.
They noted that investigations into alleged corruption surrounding the award of scholarships during the tenure of the previous administration have already been initiated by the relevant state security and investigative agencies.
The legal team questioned the decision by the High Commissioner to discuss the allegations in the media while investigations are ongoing, arguing that the appropriate security and investigative bodies should be allowed to complete their work.
“In the circumstances, the High Commissioner’s resort to the media to publicly berate our client rather than allowing the appropriate security and investigative bodies to discharge their mandate is regrettable and unwarranted,” the lawyers stated.
They further claimed that the latest comments by the High Commissioner were not the first time she had made what they described as “wild allegations” against their client despite the ongoing investigations.
The lawyers said Dr. Agyemang has fully cooperated with the state security agencies investigating the matter and has made himself available to assist with efforts to establish the facts.
They said their client remains confident that the investigations will thoroughly examine the allegations, clear his name and bring the matter to a definitive conclusion.
Dr. Agyemang, who is also a former Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South constituency in the Eastern region.
The lawyers described him as a law-abiding citizen committed to due process and the rule of law, adding that he remains focused on serving his constituents.
“He remains confident that in the fullness of time, the truth will prevail, and he will be vindicated,” the statement concluded.
