Assembly Members in the Ejisu Municipality have put on hold plans to initiate a vote of no confidence against Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Jerryne Asante following the intervention of President John Dramani Mahama.
The Assembly Members had earlier given the MCE a one-week ultimatum to resign or face removal, accusing her of poor leadership and administrative shortcomings.
Although the deadline expired on Friday, July 31, the planned action was suspended after President Mahama established a committee to investigate the concerns raised against the MCE.
The fact-finding committee, chaired by Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has been mandated to examine the allegations and present its findings to the President.
Speaking to Channel One News, Assembly Member for the Kwamo Electoral Area and spokesperson for the aggrieved members, George Kuntu Blankson, said the group decided to suspend its intended action out of respect for the President’s intervention.
“We are waiting on the President to act on our concerns this month. By the end of this month, if the President grants our wish, we will be satisfied. But if we do not hear anything by then, they will hear from us,” he said.
Mr. Blankson expressed confidence that the committee would conduct an impartial investigation into the issues raised and provide the President with the necessary information to make an informed decision.
He, however, warned that the Assembly Members would revisit their plans to remove the MCE if no action is taken after the committee completes its work and their concerns remain unresolved.
The development temporarily eases tensions within the Ejisu Municipal Assembly as stakeholders await the outcome of the government’s investigations into the dispute.
