Two suspects facing trial over the alleged lynching of a young man at Daboya in the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region have been remanded into police custody as investigations continue.
The Buipe District Magistrate Court rejected a bail application filed on behalf of Adjei Abdulai, a final-year student of the Savannah College of Education, and 22-year-old Issah Mahama.
The two are accused of being involved in the death of Yibonwura, who was reportedly attacked following allegations that he had stolen shea nuts.
During proceedings, the prosecution told the court that investigations into the case were still ongoing and that the Police were making efforts to arrest a third suspect who remains at large.
Inspector Mumuni Muniru, who led the prosecution, urged the court to allow investigations to continue, resulting in the two accused being kept in custody.
The court, presided over by Livingston Lartey Yao Ameevor, subsequently ordered Abdulai and Mahama to reappear on September 21, 2026.
The accused persons were visibly distressed after the court declined their bail request and were seen shedding tears.
Meanwhile, the Police are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding Yibonwura’s death while efforts are underway to apprehend the third suspect allegedly linked to the incident.
