Private legal practitioner Charles Owusu Juanah has alleged that more than 40 members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are likely to face prosecution and possible imprisonment, urging the party to remain cautious under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.
His comments follow the conviction and sentencing of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, who was handed a 20-year prison sentence.
Speaking in an interview with Asaasepa Radio on July 23, 2026, Mr Owusu Juanah described recent legal actions involving NPP members as politically motivated, claiming they form part of an attempt to weaken the opposition party.
He questioned the severity of Chairman Wontumi’s sentence and expressed concern over what he described as the involvement of the judiciary in political matters.
“This is a political game. So disappointing. It is not right that the court has begun to engage itself in these things. Twenty years’ imprisonment? Look at the woman who has given birth and has been jailed for one year — on which charge, under which constitution? What is this? It is really concerning,” he said.
The lawyer further claimed that several other NPP members have allegedly been identified for arrest and possible prosecution, warning party members to be vigilant.
“I have also heard that about 43 members of the NPP have been lined up to be arrested. So, this is to the NPP: if you don’t know, I am telling you,” he stated.
Mr Owusu Juanah maintained that the developments should serve as a wake-up call for the NPP to pay closer attention to events unfolding within the political and legal space.
