Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Awentami Afoko, has formally entered the party’s upcoming National Officers Elections, seeking a return to the chairmanship position with a pledge to rebuild the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Mr Afoko submitted his nomination forms to the NPP Elections Committee ahead of the October polls, officially launching his bid to lead the party once again.
Speaking after filing his nomination, he acknowledged concerns among sections of the party, including frustration and dissatisfaction among some members.
He said his campaign would seek to reconnect with delegates and members while presenting a clear vision for the party’s future.
Mr Afoko stressed that restoring unity and strengthening the NPP’s organisational structures would be central to his leadership agenda.
He identified victory in the 2028 general elections as a major objective of his decision to contest the chairmanship and said the party must begin preparations early to position itself for success.
He also pledged to conduct his campaign with decency and respect for other aspirants as the party prepares to elect its next national officers.
Elections Committee promises level playing field
Meanwhile, Chairman of the NPP Elections Committee, Frederick Opare Ansah, has assured all candidates that the electoral process will be conducted fairly and transparently.
He said the committee would ensure that every aspirant receives an equal opportunity to compete and would reject attempts to manipulate the process in favour of or against any candidate.
Mr Opare Ansah further assured the contestants that the committee would remain independent and impartial throughout the elections.
He said the committee would not bow to pressure from either within or outside the party as it oversees the process leading to the October national elections.
