Former Ghanaian boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, has been remanded into police custody for one week following an alleged death threat against National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
The Dansoman Circuit Court ordered his remand on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after he was brought before the court by the police.
Ayitey Powers was arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command on Monday, August 24, after a video circulating on social media allegedly captured him making threats against the life of Mr Ampofo Ankrah.
The former boxer will remain in police custody as investigations into the matter continue. He is expected to return to court on September 2, 2026.
His arrest followed a demand by the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) for the police to apprehend and prosecute him over the alleged remarks.
The police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the video and establish the nature of the alleged threat as the case progresses.
