New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary hopeful Eugene Boakye Antwi has positioned his long experience in the party as a key asset he would bring to efforts to rebuild the opposition party and return it to power in the 2028 general elections.
Mr Antwi believes the NPP’s current circumstances require a General Secretary with a strong understanding of the party’s structures, traditions and electoral operations, arguing that his more than two decades of frontline political experience make him suited for the task.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, he said he had worked at various levels of the NPP and participated in three presidential campaigns, giving him practical knowledge of what is required to organise the party for elections.
“I have the experience. I know what it takes for the party to win power with my experiential knowledge. I have been involved in three presidential campaigns. I have served at almost all levels of the party,” he said.
The former legislator also cited his eight years in Parliament as part of the experience he believes distinguishes him from other contenders in the race.
“I have served in Parliament for eight years. None of my opponents have such experience,” he stated.
Mr Antwi said his 21-year involvement in frontline NPP politics had also given him an appreciation of the party’s evolution, challenges and internal structures.
“I have 21 years of an unblemished record in the frontline of NPP politics. I am very grounded. I know the party’s struggles,” he said.
According to him, his familiarity with the party’s grassroots and its traditional strongholds would help him develop effective strategies to mobilise supporters and improve voter turnout.
“I come from the party’s stronghold, so anything to make the party supporters go out and vote, I know what it takes,” he said.
Mr Antwi further presented himself as a leader capable of maintaining discipline while ensuring fairness within the party.
“I am competent, unblemished, fair, firm and incorruptible. Above all, I am not a pushover. I have what it takes to help the NPP recapture power if given the nod,” he said.
He said his progression through the ranks of the NPP had prepared him for the General Secretary position and expressed confidence that he could contribute to rebuilding the party ahead of the 2028 elections.
“I also think I am a very fair, firm and honest person. I believe I am also very competent. I have risen through the ranks. All these are preparing me for this day,” he stated.
Mr Antwi is therefore urging delegates to consider his experience, organisational knowledge and track record as they decide who should lead the party’s administration into the next electoral cycle.
