A 28-year-old man, identified as Douglas Acheampong, has reportedly been shot dead following a confrontation involving individuals believed to be military personnel at Akyem Hemang in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Thursday, August 27, 2026, is said to have stemmed from a dispute over a mining concession belonging to Narawa Mining Company.
The circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear, with residents demanding an investigation to establish what happened and identify those responsible for the death.
According to an eyewitness account cited by ASK GHANA on X, Douglas was at an Indomie joint when a man believed to be a soldier allegedly approached him and slapped him.
The eyewitness claimed Douglas attempted to retaliate but later tried to escape after the confrontation intensified.
“He was sitting at an Indomie joint when a soldier slapped him. He tried to fight back before attempting to flee, but he was shot at,” the eyewitness recounted.
The shooting is said to have occurred amid a confrontation involving persons believed to be soldiers who had allegedly taken control of the mining company’s concession.
However, there is yet to be an official account detailing the events that led to the confrontation or confirming the identity of the person who allegedly fired the fatal shot.
