Former Information Minister Nana Akomea has officially entered the race for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) First Vice Chairman position ahead of the party’s 2026 national executive elections.
The former NPP Director of Communications submitted his nomination to contest one of the party’s top national executive positions, bringing years of experience in both party administration and government to the race.
Nana Akomea served as Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South from 1997 to 2013 before becoming Minister of Information under former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
He later took on the role of NPP Director of Communications, where he was a prominent figure in the party’s communication strategy during the 2016 presidential election campaign.
The NPP’s return to government in 2017 followed its victory in that election after eight years in opposition.
His decision to seek the First Vice Chairman position is expected to add further competition to the contest as the party begins preparations to elect a new national executive team.
The First Vice Chairman plays a key role in supporting the party’s national administration and organisational activities.
The NPP is expected to hold its 2026 national executive elections in October, with reports indicating that 13 aspirants have expressed interest in the three vice-chairmanship positions.
Aspirants are scheduled to undergo vetting on September 1 as the party moves closer to the elections.
Nana Akomea’s entry is expected to bring another experienced figure into a contest that will determine the leadership team responsible for guiding the party’s organisational activities ahead of future political engagements.
