Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi has taken steps to facilitate the legal process in a defamation suit filed against him by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Mr Gyamfi has formally instructed his lawyers, Ayine & Partners, to accept service of the writ of summons and other originating processes on his behalf.
The move follows Mr Afenyo-Markin’s announcement in Parliament on Monday, August 24, that he had initiated legal action over statements allegedly made against him by the GoldBod CEO.
Although the Minority Leader had announced the suit, the writ had reportedly not been served on Mr Gyamfi at the time.
In a notice to the Registrar of the High Court, General Division, Accra, dated August 26, 2026, Mr Gyamfi’s solicitors said they had received express instructions to accept service of all relevant court documents.
The notice, titled “Notice to Accept Service of Writ on Behalf of the 1st Defendant in Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin v. Samuel Adu Gyamfi and Anor,” was signed by Seth Nyaaba, Solicitor for the first defendant.
The lawyers requested that the writ and accompanying documents be served through their chambers at Ayine and Partners, House No. C809/29, 1st Close Lily Street, East Legon, Accra.
They also asked the court to update its records to reflect the arrangement.
The development clears an administrative hurdle in the case and allows the substantive legal proceedings to advance once the relevant documents have been duly served.
Mr Afenyo-Markin, who is also the Member of Parliament for Effutu, has described some statements attributed to Mr Gyamfi as defamatory and has indicated his intention to pursue the matter through the courts.
The Minority Leader has denied the allegations against him and is seeking legal redress over what he considers damage to his reputation.
Mr Gyamfi’s authorisation for his lawyers to accept service does not amount to an admission of the allegations contained in the suit. Rather, it signifies his readiness to receive the court documents and respond through the appropriate legal process.
The case is expected to further intensify the ongoing political and legal exchanges between the two politicians.
