President John Dramani Mahama has charged newly sworn-in Ministers Mahama Ayariga and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings to make accountability, integrity and public interest the foundation of their service.
The President said their appointment was accompanied by significant expectations from Ghanaians, who want public officials to deliver measurable results while remaining accessible and responsive to their concerns.
Mr Ayariga and Dr Agyeman-Rawlings took the oath of office on Saturday, August 29, a day after Parliament approved their nominations.
Mr Ayariga has been assigned to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, while Dr Agyeman-Rawlings takes charge of the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology.
Addressing the two ministers at the swearing-in ceremony, President Mahama reminded them that holding public office was not simply about occupying a position but about delivering on the responsibilities entrusted to them by the Ghanaian people.
He urged them to listen to citizens, act with urgency and ensure that their decisions comply with the law and serve the broader public interest.
“Let me remind you that the Ghanaian people expect results, they expect integrity, accessibility and accountability,” he said.
The President also urged the ministers to strike a balance between firmness and fairness in the discharge of their duties, while maintaining humility.
He advised them to rely on professional advice, respect the institutions under their supervision and exercise prudence in the management of public resources.
“Listen to professional advice, respect the institutions under your leadership and ensure that public resources are managed prudently,” he said.
President Mahama further tasked the ministers to ensure that every decision they take can withstand scrutiny on the grounds of legality, fairness and public interest.
He expressed confidence that the two ministers would bring their experience and expertise to bear as they take on their respective portfolios.
The new appointments form part of the President’s efforts to strengthen his administration and ensure effective delivery across key sectors of government.
