The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested two persons in connection with the robbery attack at a mobile money vending point at Gomoa Dominase that claimed the life of a 30-year-old vendor.
The incident occurred on Saturday, June 6, 2026, when armed robbers reportedly attacked the mobile money outlet and fled with several items, including an iPhone 13 Pro belonging to the deceased.
According to the Police, a breakthrough in the investigation came after the stolen phone was activated, enabling investigators to track its whereabouts.
The Police, in a statement issued on August 27, 2026, said intelligence gathered during the investigation led to the arrest of Isaac Baffoe, alias Kwame Cheddo, at Kwesimintsim in Takoradi on June 26.
A search conducted on Baffoe resulted in the recovery of the stolen iPhone 13 Pro, which was allegedly hidden inside an iPhone 17 safety case along with other phone accessories.
Investigators subsequently traced the refurbishment of the device to Prince Tawiah Baidoo, a phone technician at Kwesimintsim, whom Baffoe reportedly identified as the person who worked on the phone.
The Police said Baidoo admitted repairing the stolen device and replacing its motherboard, Face ID component and camera sensors at a cost of GH¢2,650.
Further searches at Baidoo’s residence led to the discovery of a box containing the original motherboard, Face ID component and camera sensors removed from the deceased’s phone.
Both suspects have since been arraigned before the Ofaakor Circuit Court as investigations continue.
The Police have retained the recovered iPhone, along with its original and refurbished components, as exhibits while efforts are underway to track down other members of the suspected robbery gang.
The Command is also investigating individuals who may have facilitated the handling or concealment of the stolen phone.
The Police have appealed to members of the public with credible information that could assist in the investigation to come forward.
